We're Back!

After a hectic 2013 spring we kind of went blog quite for a while and we are  sorry but we needed the break.to get ready for Spotlight 2013-2014. We have a renewed season coming up and this year we have news... Spotlight is now offering Dance Classes! That's right on top of our already awesome Acting, Musical Theatre and Improv programs we can dance dance dance.

Don't forget we will also be staging Nutcracker Dec 13-15 at the Harbourfront Theatre and rehearsals are already underway and after only a short time our amazing cast is looking awesome. This is a performance you will not want to miss.

We will also be doing some pretty cool things for this Halloween season including participating in the Scarecrow fest taking place this Sunday at Kool Breeze Farms come on down and meet some of our characters.. including a Disney Princess here is a clue to who she is... her fairy tale involves a pumpkin and some magic.

Spotlight Update

Spotlight Theatre Company's 3rd annual recital featuring Acting, Improv, Musical Theatre, Dance and Vocal Students from ages 5-30 is coming up soon! The show is on June 8th at 7pm at the Harbourfront Theatre. To purchase tickets, come to the Spotlight Theatre Company studio on Water St between 9-5, Tuesday to Friday. The tickets are $13 +HST if you purchase them in advance, and $15 +HST at the door.

 

We've also announced our Summer Programs! This year, Spotlight is hosting two week long summer camps for kids and a summer Show Choir for ages 13 and up.


Acting and Art Summer Camp taking place July 15-19 for kids ages 6-12. Campers get to create their own character, and play fun theatre and improv games as well as creating art related to the character that they've created! Students will work together to create a collective work.

 Musical Theatre Summer camp from July 22-25 for kids aged 6-12. Campers get to work on a collective Musical Theatre project where they will learn to Sing, Act and Dance! Including Exciting theatre games and activities this camp will end the week with a performance of their work open for parents to see!

Show Choir class for ages 13 and up starting July 3rd Classes run for 8 weeks Wednesday evenings from 6- 7:30pm Students will work on a series of projects based on popular music, including instruction in vocal skills, beginner music theory and dance performance. Similar to Glee, students will work on group performance and have opportunities for solos.

This week's Spotlight Wednesday student is Katelynn Clow!

Whats Going on at Spotlight

We are 8 weeks out from Cinderella and everyone here at Spotlight is working hard to get this show up and on stage in time!  Sets are being built, costumes sewn and all of our actors are working hard to remember their lines and dance routines!  It's going to be an excellent show, folks! Registrations for our Acting and Art March Break camp are ongoing, but filling up fast!  If you want to register your child for our camp, email reasha@spotlighttheatrecompany.ca or call 902-724-3050 during business hours.  As you know, campers get to play fun theatre and improv games, create their own character in a fantasy world and learn how to create their own props, sets, and costumes!

This is Raena's Second year in Spotlight Classes she takes Musical Theatre, Drama and Improv and she has performed in last years Spotlight Production of Back to the 80's. Raena is a Student at KISH who loves to sing and act.

Its Cinderella Saturday ~ Time to Meet the Cast

Today we feature Anastasia (Emily McIsaac) and Drizella  (Dominique LaPierre)

Emily McIsaac (10) is playing the role of Cinderella’s evil stepsister, Anastasia.  She says her sister told her she’d be good for the role, and she’s really enjoying getting to be evil. Emily likes playing Anastasia, because she doesn’t need to master waltzing or curtsying.  This will be Emily’s first major production with Spotlight Theatre after joining us in the fall, and she hopes you’ll all love the show!

Dominique Lapierre (12) is playing the role of Cinderella’s evil stepsister, Drizella.  She says that her character is snobbish and whines a lot, and even though she likes playing Drizella, she wouldn’t want to be her friend!  She loves working with Spotlight and she’s excited to be back with us this year. This will be Dominique’s second production with Spotlight Theatre, the first being Alice in Wonderland. In true evil stepsister fashion, she says you better come see the show… or else!

Again one of our favorite groups everywhere have taken their antics to a regular old shopping mall where they stage a crazy musical sequence in a food court!

Spotlight Wednesday Jamey Smallwood

This Week's Spotlight Wednesday Student is Jamey Smallwood 

Jamey is a student in out Musical Theatre Beginnings class and is also performing as the Fairy God Mother in Cinderella. This is Jamey's second year with Spolight and she has participated in the Acting Step up program, the Musical Theatre program and played Alice in our production of Alice in Wonderland. 

Jamey Loves Acting is getting ready to start Hockey in the 2013/2014 season.

Cinderella rehearsals are now in full swing!  We had our first one of the year last Saturday and the cast and crew are excited to be back and getting ready for the show! Cinderella rehearsals have already started, it’s going to be a fantastic show!

Its the most wonderful time of the year

Hey readers!  Here’s what’s happening with Spotlight this week.

This year, from December 19 to the 21st, Spotlight Theatre Company is offering Christmas Singing Telegrams!   Want to spread some good cheer to your friends and family?  Give us a call at 902-724-3050 and book one for December 19 to the 21st.  They’re $20 each, and for an extra $5 a special candy bouquet will be delivered along with your telegram.  Be sure to call in quickly, because spaces are going fast.

We’re looking for actors to dress up as Christmassy characters for our float in the Summerside Santa Clause Parade this year.  If you’re interested, please give us a call or email reasha@spotlighttheatrecompany.ca.

Cinderella rehearsals are now in full swing. We had
our first rehearsal this past Saturday and everyone involved is enthusiastic and excited to take part! Look forward to it in the spring when it hits the stage in April.

November Begins

Hey all! 

October has closed, and our season is now in full swing!  Auditions for our children’s musical, Cinderella, are starting this Saturday! The auditions are for ages 5-13 and are at noon at our studio location at 271 Water St, in Summerside.  Please be prepared to sing, dance and act, but all scripts and music will be provided.  Look forward to seeing you all there!

Spotlight is also about to start its fundraising season.  This year the majority of our fundraisers will be going towards our children’s musical, Cinderella.  As always, we love participation from the community, whether it’s participating in the fundraiser or volunteering their time.  More information and dates about our fundraisers will be posted as they draw near!

This year Spotlight is participating in the Christmas Parade!  We, along with many Summerside businesses, will be participating in the parade of lights, so come down and check it out on November 26th!

Speaking of Christmas, this year we are offering Christmas Singing Telegrams! Spread some holiday cheer by sending a group of carollers to a friend or loved one.  Starting next week, we will be taking orders!  Call us and choose from a list of songs, and we’ll let you know what time we’ll be there.  If you’d like to order a Singing Telegram, call 902-724-3050 during business hours.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Open auditions for this year’s Spotlight Theatre Company production of Cinderella Kids.
Auditions will take place on November 3rd at 12 PM in the Spotlight Theatre Company Studio at 271 Water St. Summerside. Auditions are open for children ages 5-13.

Disney’s Cinderella, the tale of a young girl living under the rule of her evil stepsisters and stepmother.  When her stepmother does not allow Cinderella to go to the royal ball, she receives some unexpected help from her Fairy Godmother and fury friends. Popular songs include “A dream is a wish your heart makes” and “Bibbidi bobbidi Boo”

Spotlight Theatre Company is in its 3rd year of business with 3 full-scale musical productions under its belt, including the 2011 Production of Nutcracker and the 2012 production of Alice in Wonderland
Cinderella will hit the Harbourfront Theatre Stage in April 2013

Please be prepared to sing, dance, and act during the audition, and all songs and scripts will be provided.

Its Bewitching Season!

Hey readers! Spotlight 2012/2013 class season has already begun!  As you know, we offer classes in acting, musical theatre, dance and improv for all ages!  We started last week and already we know that this is going to be a fantastic year.  If you’d like to take classes, there’s still time to register!  If you’re unsure, come and sit in on a class!


For those interested in participating in our children’s show we will be doing our audition announcement soon.  Look forward to it!

This year we are participating in a Halloween event called Witches on Water St presented by Downtown Summerside.  It takes place on the 27th of October from 1-4 pm.  Come down to Water St with your costume to bob for apples, paint some pumpkins and find the witch!  With special guests Maurice Bernard and Wayne Wright, it’s going to be a spooktacular day.  If you’re interested in volunteering for the event, email us at reasha@spotlighttheatrecompany.ca

Children's Classes Week One

What a wonderful night of classes, such a talented group!
The Acting class has a varied age range but they are all working together so well already and a big part of being an actor is team work. They are so Bright and I know have a lot to show.
The Musical Theatre beginnings class wow.. first note out of their moths was on key (thank god) and they have such a playful song  "I wont Grow Up" peter pan  I know we are going to have a blast with it. I am all amped to get going on the teen classes tomorrow and the adults on Thursday.
It is not too late to join us for any class and we would love to welcome any one who has an interested. You never have to have previous experience, we love to have new to the arts people join too. Its nights like these that refresh me on why I devote my life to the Arts!
